[Closed] WE’RE HIRING: We’re looking for a new Research Associate!
THREE new Research Assistant/Associate positions have become available at Cambridge University as part of S2UPPlant: Smart Sustainable Plastic Packaging from Plants.
S2UPPlant is a NERC-funded interdisciplinary research project which aims to produce and characterise new compostable materials from natural feedstocks, with the highest potential for industrial scale-up and a rigorous assessment of their environmental and economic impact and changes required for widespread adoption. The outcomes will be an improved scientific understanding of naturally derived plastics and a suite of prototype materials suitable for emerging markets in compostable films and fibres.
The role based within Resource Efficiency Collective, under Dr Jonathan Cullen, will focus on Environmental and Economic Impact of Natural Plastic Feedstocks (18 months). This position will explore the feasibility of scaling up these new materials and displacing existing fossil fuel derived plastics. This will be achieved by anticipating the environmental and economic impacts of new plant-based plastic packaging innovations, in three stages: demand mapping, scale-up potential, and impact assessment.
Appointment at Research Associate level is dependent on having a PhD. Those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD will be appointed at Research Assistant level, which will be amended to Research Associate once the PhD has been awarded.
Salary Ranges: Research Assistant: £26,715 – £30,942, Research Associate: £32,816 – £40,322
