Resource Efficiency Collective Goes to Wales!
On Thursday June 13th, members of Resource Efficiency Collective traveled from Cambridge to Staylittle, Wales for a four-day group retreat. We stayed in The Lodge at Staylittle where we enjoyed the beautiful mid-Wales scenery, evening chats around the wood fireplace, wet Welsh hikes to the source of the Severn river in Hafren forest, and memorable times cooking and eating together.
We also had four interesting academic sessions:
- Jon Cullen led us in a discussion about the vision and values of Resource Efficiency Collective. As a group we value collaboration and excellence in our research, which we accomplish in a supportive, kind, and respectful learning environment. We are multidisciplinary researchers that take a holistic and systems perspective and conduct research motivated by mitigating the climate crisis.
- PhD student, Scott Jeen, presented a framework for choosing research problems: ‘The problem problem: choosing impactful research problems’.
- Former Resource Efficiency Collective research associate, and current lecturer at the University of Sheffield, Fanran Meng, presented on academic publishing.
- Rick Lupton, lecturer at the University of Bath, shared the narrative of his academic journey including a discussion on how to navigate the academic job market.
Overall, the trip to Wales was an enjoyable experience, and a great time to go away together as a group.
